I work at a company playing heavily within the social media space. Specifically, we push our product to CMO's of the fortune 500 looking to leverage social media as a means to understand brand experience, customer satisfaction, etc. What I'm seeing across the board is a gradual realization that social media is here to stay, and if a company is to survive it must learn to leverage this space appropriately. The very first step for most of these companies is to begin interacting with various communities within their target market.

Granted, EESO is by no means Fortune 500. However, my take is that IR's joining online forums will become more and more common over the next 2 years. Eventually, this will be our primary means of communication w/IR (outside of PRs obviously).
