Nice post, but Kazakhstan (like Russia) is NOT living up to protecting the environment. I know this first hand.

They use terms, such as "waste utilization" in their regulatory process, which means they dispose and bury the material.

Check it out for yourself. There's a company called "Landfill Company" that takes drilling wastes (class III) and "utilizes it." Which really means dump in a pit and cover it forever. This "pit" it less than 10 km's from the Caspian Sea and its been proven it leaches into the Caspian Sea. It completely violates the multi national agreement in place to protect (at all costs) the Caspian Sea.

When this multi-national consortium begins auditing all producing companies on or near the Caspian Sea, the Mangistau Region will be one of the first and will be required to correct itself within 3 years.

Anyway, Kazakhstan isn't in compliance, even though they agree and have signed the agreement.
