My kids were telling me about Earth Day yesterday and asking me to turn off the TV in the middle of a game to help save the Earth. I told them we do care about the Earth, and we try our best to recycle and not waste. I explained how houses use cleaner fuels like natural gas instead of coal and are insulated better than in the past.

I also told them as much as you may care for the Earth, the Earth doesn't really care much for you. In fact, it's often times trying to kill you through earthquakes, floods, tornados, storms, hurricanes, volcano eruptions, and other naturally occuring events. There's also the occasional extinction, which could occur 27 years from now if an asteroid passes closer than it's current trajectory suggests.
