Re: MeMe, this is what i was talking about a few months ago when we were arguing about the open access to cable
DoubleBuy - I'm not sure how you see that excerpt as having any thing to do with open access to cable. Unless what you are trying to say is that they're always looking for a way to cut out the middle-man.
In which case, I'd say, yeah, that's true. So what? As an investor in the company, I'd prefer they figure out a way around something rather than having to pay for it.
With regards to open access to cable, as I said before, yes, Disney was acting in its own best interest during the AOL/TW FCC/FTC review, but interestingly, its best interests were also the consumer's best interests.
Open access to ALL content is always in everyone's best interest. Would you prefer to enjoy the benefits of broadband, but only have one content provider?
I do believe that the referenced statement shows that Disney is interested in ways to deliver movies to the consumer via either the internet or TV, and still make money without worry of copyright violations or illegal distribution. This not only makes their site and TV stations a bigger draw, but would also allow them to cut out the middle-man, yet again.
What is wrong with this? Is this not capitalism at its finest? Isn't every company about reducing expense and increasing profit? Is this not what the internet is all about? Faster, easier, at your finger-tips content in abundance through new methods of distribution which may possibly turn all old rules of the economy upside down?
