n83, you know I can recall when GM came out with the Quad 4 4-cylinder engine. It was heralded as a technological breakthrough that didn't even need to be wet tested.
Well, that engine had a problem with NVH (noise, vibration, harshness). It took GM seven years before they put counter balance shafts in it to take care of the problem. Meanwhile, the imports had those shafts in them for years.
Really, GM was pushing an engine originally unveliled in 1962, the 3800 V-6, even through last year. It was one of the few engines available that did not feature overhead cams. It was originally created by slashing two cylinders off an existing V-8 engine, something that was not uncommon at GM.
The 3800 V-6 tells us everything we need to know about the problems at GM. It was a bureaucracy concerned with bean counting.
