WOW UK Reolysin + Low Dosage Radiation PII Trial Results

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Oncolytics-BiotechR-Inc-prnews-14866862.html
<<clip ... total of 16 heavily pretreated patients with advanced cancer (melanoma (5), colorectal (4), gastric (1), pancreas (1), ovarian (1), lung (1), cholangiocarcinoma (1) sinus (1), and thyroid (1)) were enrolled in the trial. Most patients had received prior chemotherapy (13 patients) or radiation (5 patients). Of 14 patients evaluable for response, 13 patients had stable disease (SD) or better in the treated target lesions. Of these, partial responses (PR) were observed in four patients (lung, melanoma (2) and gastric) and minor responses were observed in two patients (thyroid, ovarian), for a total disease control rate (stable disease + partial response + complete response) of 93% in the treated lesions. The combination was well tolerated, with only mild (Grade 1 or 2) toxicities noted.>> endclip

93% "Disease control rate" of Stable Disease or better in patients that were heavily pretreated and failed all previous therapies !

These results are nothing short of stunning in my mind. This was a small trial that took a long time to enroll. This trial used a dosage of radiation that was considered just pallative or for making the pain from cancer tolerable.

The theory here is that radiation even in low dosages slightly tempers the immune system to allow systemic infection of reovirus to establish and do its job to kill cancer cells.

Great results, and another trial completed with no side effects to note, very high response rates in a targeted setting and apparantly reovirus is synergistic with many combinations as well as a monotherapy. As time goes on here you can see how ONCY has guided their clinical development to trials that are showing better results as time goes on and the virus is more understood.
