{"s" : "nok, twx, yhoo","k" : "c10,l10,p20,t10","o" : "","j" : ""} —Nokia Point & Find goes Beta: This product has been demoed before, most notably at the handset giant's Nokia World in Barcelona last December. But today, Nokia has released in the US and UK a beta version of Point & Find, which allows people to access information and services through the internet, by pointing their mobile phone camera at "real-life" objects. The test version is focused right now on movies, with additional services and country launches expected later. Users can point their mobile camera phone to a poster of a new movie to access the film's trailer, read reviews, or find the closest cinema where it's showing. In the UK, Turner Europe is using the service to allow users to point their camera phone at various Cartoon Network related objects to access show or product information on their phones.

The service basically ratchets up the pressure on mobile barcode or QR code startups such as Scanbuy, ScanLife and NeoMedia.

Similar to Nokia Point & Find, these start ups can scan barcodes or images, but the big hitch has been getting the scanning app loaded on phones. Start-ups have either relied on consumers themselves to download the app, or struck deals with handset makers to get their app pre-loaded on phones.

Nokia eliminates this hurdle with the technology built in to their phones. The other advantage of Point & Find is that it integrates GPS, which gives it an additional edge by supporting location-based capabilities, such as the movie-finding service.

— Nokia Messaging supports Hotmail: Nokia announced today that users can now access Windows Live Hotmail through its email service for its devices Nokia Messaging. In May, Nokia Messaging will also be available through the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, its first touchscreen device. Aside from Hotmail, Nokia Messaging, a free to download service, supports Yahoo! (NasdaqGS: YHOO - News) Mail, AOL (NYSE: TWX - News) Mail, and Gmail among many others (release).

— Nokia Photo Browser prototype app released: Nokia's Beta Labs has released a prototype application of its Nokia Photo Browser, that gives users a few new ways to browse photos. The app includes "Face browsing" which uses face detection technology to find people's faces from pictures and allows them to flick on them to view them more closely. Another feature is the "MagGlass" magnifier, which gives a magnifying glass effect for image zooming, that is the part of the picture you are zooming in on is enlarged within a circle. The app is available for Nokia's touchscreen 5800 XpressMusic device. Again, this app is a prototype, which Nokia has released in order to get feedback on it.

"A phenomenal year awaits NeoMedia and we need you to join our team!"
