That's the whole problem. The states need the money, but it's hard to get reelected if you say "I'm going to raise your taxes." When Bush ran on a platform of "Tax Cuts for Everyone," in 2000, I knew two things. One, that our local and state taxes would increase dramatically and they did....especially our local taxes. And two, that our country was going to head into a downward spiral economically....which it did. You have to be able to pay for the things you need. Granted, waste will always be a problem, but even some 'wasteful' spending may be what keeps some people employed rather than idle.
I just think it is funny that anytime there is a tax reduction, it is followed by another entity increasing their taxes to get a piece of it!
It will always be that way.
