I agree that these are NOT normal times. I have often fantasized to be in the exact scenario you just posed. I think it's a brilliant move as I feel the currency will be devalued and you will be able to pay off that loan for 20% of the deversified hedge against the dollar.

If I had a house owned free and clear (I'm building one for cash right now, so I can't get a loan - my timing always sucks. oh well), I would love to do just that. The rates are great. I'd probably even do a 30 year loan under your scenario. I would probably keep half the cash as cash until I could get a CD return of double my loan interest rate, just to be a little more conservative. The other half would be in your inflation hedged portfolio.
