I hear you! I too am weary of penny stocks; most of them are scams, and the rest aren't profitable! It's a myth that many large cap stocks began as pennies...it's just not true. The dramatic gains and losses with penny stocks are partially what ruined my account last year. I didn't know any better but through this forum and experience I've learned to get the heck out while the price is up and never look back. You might not have the typical 1000% gains or more with large caps, but you usually won't have 99% losses either (though that's been the norm for the past year...many companies lost 99% of their share price or close). With great companies so cheap right now (come on, Citi was at .97? I KNEW it was a buy at that price), there's no real reason to trust in penny scams.
