If I read the archive correctly, you used to say that IPF was the only choice.

Nature abhors a vacuum and a market abhors a monopoly.
Even where economics would seem to dictate a monopoly
diversity can often hold on for its own sake. The continued
existence of the Apple Macintosh in a PC world is a perfect
example of this phenomenon.

I don't expect IPF to completely take over the server space
even in the long term. And in the near to mid term IBM is
clearly serving notice it is willing and able to dedicate a
tremendous amount of resources into mounting a challenge
to IPF. IMO PowerPC is a fully credible architecture for at
least another decade and as such represents a viable choice
for companies looking to move away from SPARC for their
enterprise computing needs.
