Do you really believe they'd have Andy and his team working so hard on Opteron systems, and that they'd be about to release a 4-way, and , soon to follow, an 8-way system if they didn't know where they were headed with it?

What Andy and his team can and can't do is irrelevent if
Sun isn't convinced it will sell into the markets Sun wants
to continue to sell into. The guys who buy E15ks don't give
a flying fig whether Sun has 4 way or 8 way Opterons this
year or next. They are making strategic choices they have
to live with for a generation. On that plane of existence
IPF and PowerPC are the *only* real choices in looking
beyond the increasingly irrelevent SPARC.
