Completely irrelevant. The point is that Sun has no definite strategy for keeping their business together. It seems evident now that the whole Opteron promotion was a short-term fling. Maybe Intel's EM64T announcement destroyed any advantage that Sun thought they would have against the other vendors. Assuming that Intel is funding a Solaris port to IPF, it should tell you that they are giving thoughtful consideration to the notion of carrying an Itanium based system. Intel wouldn't be helping Sun at all unless an actual deal was palpably close. On the other hand, if all this ends up being a fleeting experiment at Sun labs, it should at least indicate that Sun is being less than confident with their current direction, and that they're even willing to adopt the biggest threat to their own high end and high margin products.

And this should definitely scare you if you're a SUNW investor.
