Linux in native mode on TMTA chips?

Bird, some time ago, perhaps 2Q2000 or so, I recall reading speculation that Linus T was working on a new version of Linux which would run in native mode on TMTA chips (ie, without the need for CMS). Such an OS would be very fast and particularly suitable for servers and high-end processing. Unfortunately, that is the last that I heard about it. Do you have any insights?

The LANL Green Destiny got me thinking about this, as, if the OS existed, I would think that RLX would want to sell it and LANL would use it. Perhaps the hardware design for the TM56/5800 is inimicable to Linux in native mode. Perhaps such capability is being designed into the TM6000 and Astro. I sure hope so.

regards, wsh
