NOT QUITE SURE OF YOUR POINT, or is it a question? As for the other list of what YOU see as 'can't live without' they are not on my list.

You have not really understood what I wrote before letting your emotions run wild, to respond.

This world is NOT the USA. What is IMPORTANT and meaningful to the rest of the world is not necessarily the same as what is important to you. And vice versa.

In the UK we lost an icon from our high streets a shop by the name of WOOLWORTHS. It was known and loved by all of us, young and old for over a hundred years. But it was never on a 'must see' 'must go there' on the tourists list. However, MARKS and SPENCER is, it's where so many wives and daughter's make for when they visit. And if it were to go under (it won't) it would reverberate around the world at least among the influential classes who travel and they would really think the UK was on the skids (and it isn't)

We have had some banks go but NOT the Bank of England, because it's a national institution. Nor will Buckingham Palace fall victim to the property crunch.

These, I agree, are extremes, because I am trying to make a point you so evidently missed in my last posting. It's all about IMAGE and PERCEPTIONS and how we relate, how we are seen outside our borders, as well as within.
