Superior Has Backyard Advantage With Marcellus Shale
Experience, proximity, gives Superior Well Services competitive advantage

Indiana, PA - The Marcellus Shale is a large natural gas-bearing shale formation located in the Appalachian Basin that has recently seen a rapid increase in drilling activity. The core area of the Marcellus Shale runs from southwestern New York through much of western Pennsylvania and parts of West Virginia and Ohio. Given the close proximity of Superior's headquarters in Indiana, Pennsylvania to this core area, as well as Superior's extensive experience in fracturing wells in the Appalachian Basin, Superior believes it has a competitive advantage in capturing a significant portion of the increasing well service activity in the area.

Superior's employees are well versed in the area. Many of their sales, operations and technical personnel average between 15 and 30 years experience in the Basin. By combining company experience, employees' experience, and the close proximity of the wells, Superior has been able to quickly provide personnel, equipment, and expertise as the need arises.

Superior is a growing oilfield services company, operating in many of the significant oil and natural gas producing regions of the US. Its specialties as they relate to the Marcellus Shale deposit are servicing the wells, such as providing cementing services to isolate producing intervals and hydraulically fracturing the shale, also known as stimulating, to unlock the gas trapped in this tight reservoir. They do this through a variety of methods, many of which include proprietary chemicals, such as SAS-2, and Super Max.

Super Max is a surfactant and microemulsion system that reduces surface tension, reduces interfacial tension, lowers capillary pressure, changes contact angle, and controls leakoff with microcells. Super Max more effectively stimulates the wells, which often times results in increased production.

SAS-2 is a newly developed liquid, non-damaging viscosifier and fluid-loss additive that improves well response by eliminating the gel residue associated with conductivity impairment. It dissolves completely in the frac fluid to improve well cleanup.

Superior believes that the Marcellus Shale provides an opportunity to reinforce their reputation as a leading provider of well site solutions in the Appalachian Basin. "As Superior grows," Dave Wallace, CEO of Superior, says, "so does our commitment to producing the best products and services we can, to lessen our impact on the environment and improve the communities we serve."
