Air Austral 200th carrier in the BCBP Matchmaker
The BCBP Matchmaker now has 200 carriers looking for a match. Airports, are you in?

Air Austral, the Indian ocean carrier based in La Réunion, became the 200th carrier to join the BCBP Matchmaker. “We are extremely pleased that in only one year, the matchmaker has become the tool of choice for implementing 100% BCBP,” says Eric Léopold, BCBP Project Manager.

The BCBP Matchmaker is a secure, free-of-charge web portal that allows airlines and airports to plan their move to 100% BCBP together. Airlines and airports can send each other implementation requests, so they’re in sync when moving to the IATA-standard 2D barcodes.

“There is no time to lose on implementation,” added Eric. “The industry is haemorrhaging money. And BCBP offers a quick return on investment – to the tune of US$1.5 billion in savings for the industry every year.”

The IATA board has mandated a move to 100% BCBP by the end of 2010.

TSA goes on a barcode scanner shopping spree
The US’s transport regulatory authority may order up to 2,300 barcode scanners, paving the way for paperless travel in the United States.

According to an article in USA Today, the TSA is getting ready to buy one barcode scanner for every security checkpoint in the US. The barcodes that will be scanned are compliant with the IATA 2D mobile barcode standard, published in June 2008.

“We are very pleased that the TSA is moving forward with paperless travel in the world’s largest travel market,” said Eric Léopold, BCBP Project Manager. “In addition to saving money in a time of crisis, BCBP also offers opportunities for service innovation. Soon, travellers in the US will be able to go from their office to the plane with only their mobile phone.”
