WME reports that Atlas Mining can start mining at its Dragon mine in Utah, US, the only known commercial source of halloysite clay outside of New Zealand, now that the KDX Mincronex is on site at its Dragon Mine facility in Juab County, Utah. The unit is the main piece of processing equipment onsite and its arrival means the company can start mining and processing. Manufactured by the First American Scientific Corporation in Canada, the KDS Micronex has been used to process coal and other soft rock minerals into fine particle size generally less than 75 microns (below 200 mesh). The unit has a production rate of 3-4 tph. The 35 kW hr/ton used by the KDS Micronex(tm) to grind is competitive with smaller horizontal ball mills that do not achieve the same fine grinding or any supplemental drying. The mine will be an underground facility. The portal work has been done to get to the 120 foot level at a 15 degree incline to the clay bed. In addition to the processing plant, Atlas has purchase two low profile, rubber-tired underground loaders, a single boom jumbo drill, and an Alpine miner roadheader.
