Bobs,

This is the most important part, IMO:

THEN THEY TOLD US THAT IN DEC WE COULD GET DL380'S WITH OPTERONS TOO, AS WELL AS BLADES WITH AMD CHIPS!!!!!!

DL-300 line is kind of a bread and butter of the server market. If HP really does come out with one, there will be a head to head competition in the entire Compaq server line between Xeon and Opteron. Opteron is clearly a better solution, and the potential is there is for significant gain of market share in the server market.

Opteron based blades have been rumored for some time, but 300 class server is news, one I was hoping for since Opteron was released.

Since the timeframe is December (I would like it sooner), it very much looks like this will be another original design by Compaq, and chances are, it will be a very attractive machine.

HPQ is the 800 pound gorilla of the x86 server market (with IBM and Dell behind), and full line of Opteron servers (vs. very limited IBM and non-existent for Dell) gives HPQ very good reason to push Opteron - the competition has no answer.

HPQ can match up their own Xeon server against any Xeon server of IBM and Dell...

Joe

On yahoo's AMD board someone provided a link to HP's site. They have a 320 listed, under news or new items, somthing to that effect.

Regards

Jules
