Could it be happening because the Electronic Entertainment Expo just isn’t the event it used to be? Whatever the case, video game makers are reaching out to other venues to promote their products including the New York Comic Con where the presence of video games will increase by 50 percent from last year (2008). Game-related exhibits are going to eat up 11,000 square feet of space at the event February 6-8, 2009.
Comic Con organizers announced the growth in game industry space is the biggest of of any mediaincluding comic books, which is the whole reason the event exists. This is a good year for that happen, as numerous games on the floor seek synergy between comic books and games, games and movies or a combination of all of those.
Activision, for example, is showing Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 and X-Men Origins:Wolverine. Atari is unveiling a video game adaptation of popular pen and paper RPG Champions and the much discussed, kicked between companies Ghostbusters game. All the aforementioned are games with wide crossover appeal for comic book fans.
But Activision and Atari won’t be alone on the exhibit floor. A who’s who of gamemakers including Sega, THQ and Rockstar Games will all be in the house too. There’s even a panel giving advice on how to get into the video game industry. And yes, there’s a bunch of comic book, anime and movie stuff there too if you’re into any of those things.
Tickets for New York Comic Con 2009 are $50 for the entire weekend, $30 for Friday, February 6, 2009, $40 for Saturday, February 7, 2009,and $30 for Sunday, February 8, 2009.
