Outrage: Mom of Octuplets Already Has 6 Kids

When we heard that a mother in California had delivered octuplets and that they were all expected to survive we celebrated the historic occasion. After a deluge of bad news about economic woes, political corruption and unending wars it was nice to hear good news for a change. Recently it's been the economy that has dominated the discussion around the water cooler, but in the last couple of days all anyone could talk about was the miracle in the Golden State.

But what at first glance seemed to be a fairy tale turns out to be a nightmare of horrific proportions. The octuplets are not a blessing that we should all celebrate, but a curse that we should all mourn.

The mother, who is too cowardly to face the public, is financially bankrupt, living with her mother and already has six children. I won't even mention that the baby daddy is nowhere to be found.

"CBS News has learned that the family of the octuplets born this week outside Los Angeles filed for bankruptcy and abandoned a home a little over a year-and-a-half ago.

Early Show national correspondent Hattie Kauffman says the mother is in her mid-thirties and lives with her parents.

Kauffman reported Thursday, and the octuplets' maternal grandmother now confirms to the Los Angeles Times, that the babies' mother already had six young children."

It's insane for a bankrupt mother of six, and an AWOL father to enroll in a fertility program. It should be illegal for a woman who already has children and no money to speak of to be given fertility drugs by a physician.

Fertility treatments are very expensive -- you can bet that it's you and I who paid for them.

You don't have to be a sociologist or a psychologist to know that this woman's kids will most likely grow up to be drug dealers and burglars instead of doctors and lawyers.

For the good of the children and society this woman's children should be taken away. There is no way on earth that she can provide for their emotional, educational and financial needs.

I have two dogs and two cats and the financial means to properly take care of them, but I would balk at adopting another pet becasue I don't think I could give more than four pets the individual attention that they need. I feel damn sorry for this woman's large brood, and even sorrier for the psychiatrists who will have to deal with their psychologial problems.

The grandfather ... is apparently going to head back to his native Iraq to earn money for the growing family."

The grandfather might as well cancel his flight, unless he plans on robbing a bank in Iraq how the hell does he plan on raising the millions for the hospital bill and the millions more it will take to raise 14 kids?

It's not the grandfather who will be stuck with the bill, it's going to be the taxpayer who's going to feel the pinch. It's outrageous that we have to pay the price for the insanity of the mother.

If the press knows the identity of the mother it is their responsibility to out her. This woman should be made to face the wrath of the public and the ridicule of the press.

I don't have a smidgen of sympathy for this woman's ordeal, she brought it on herself. In a world bursting at the seams with 7 billion hungry mouths, it's a crime for a woman to have 14 children.
