Officer arrested for DUI

FORT MYERS: A Fort Myers officer has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of a criminal investigation.

According to reports Officer Leon Young, 40, tried to avoid a DUI checkpoint by entering a parking lot early Saturday morning.

When deputies approached his car they noticed he was intoxicated and saw a marijuana like substance on the front of his shirt.

Canine units conducted a free air search of the car and gained a positive alert but no drugs were found.

Young was refusing to do a field sobriety test and just asked to be taken to jail.

When Young was asked to take a breathalyzer he screamed at the officer and said "You are apart of the KKK and so is your father."

"I am extremely disappointed. This is not the conduct that we would expect from one of our officers," said Chief Doug Baker.

After a series of field sobriety exercises Young was arrested and has been placed on administrative leave.

Deputies say they arrested a total of 11 people for driving under the influence and issued 29 tickets Friday night.

Almost 600 cars passed through the checkpoint.
