scoutin' report...
Well - it finally almost here. My season starts Friday morning.. actually my season starts Monday morning... but I won't be going up 'til Thurs. PM.
Arrived in camp at 930 Friday night... my buddies were hunting their season and had a comfy fire going... nursing a few of Mr. Busch's favorites, we easily fell into that special conversation mode that only a camp fire under the stars can bring... Judds right, if the Isreali's and the Palestinians were forced to share a campfire we'd all sleep easier at night!
"Sinus Condition" Bob provided a lulaby which rivaled even Judds nose music! (Rivaled - not exceeded... you are still the undiputed king, bro!)... Got cold... like 25 degrees cold... Bob's sleeping bag was one of those Kmart jobs rated at 45 degrees - he froze. Serves him right as I had to shove toilet paper in my ears just to TRY to get some sleep... wheres Rambo with the ear plugs when you need him? (I gotta remember to put those plugs in my essential camp gear box!!!) (just updated hunt_gear.xls !!! LOL)
Eventually I even go so far as to go to the truck to evaluate whether I could get comfortable enough to sleep there... in the end I opted for the TP! About 2am ol Bob gets so cold he gets the propane camp stove and brings it in the tent... I'm thinking - this nut case is going to kill us with CO!! Rather than argue with him I simply opened a tent flap to allow air flow... my bags rated at 15 below - I waas toasty! : )
3:45 the alarm goes off... coffee, black and strong... bacon, burnt... and eggs over cooked and dry... in other words a FEAST of a hunt camp breakfast!
Then its off to the woods... I located 5 gobblers by 7 or so... scouted until about 1 and then went back to camp lunch... ended up taking a nap - got one heck of a sunburn on the left side of my face! LOL...
Bob got himself an 8 inch bearded Tom... He's on cloud nine! His partner did not score but still had a great time. The birds have been henned up hard for the past several weeks and it just started to break yesterday... still seeing them with the hens but the are starting to gobble again after fly down... with the next several days forecasted for stormy weather and clearing by the weekend the timing really looks good...
