I can't really see Dell attempting to sell a chip with the high profile Nocona will be claiming, if that chip is too far behind Opteron in either 32 or 64 bit performance. It would just be another total embarrassment for Dell as well as INTC.

Well that's exactly what they are going to do.

Dell/Intel are arrogant enough to believe that their marketing muscle can push this down the consumers throat even if 64 bit performance "inhales vigorously". That's probably why Intel isn't not too interested in getting Nocona into the hands of review sites either. Who knows? Maybe they do have the marketing muscle to pull it off.

I'd love to see Dell selling Opteron servers, but personally I think Hades will freeze over first. Dell has way too much riding on their relationship with Intel too jeopardize it by selling a handful of Opteron/A64s.
