Tiny clamshell PDA runs Linux — A startup called Imovio has announced a WiFi- and Bluetooth-enabled clamshell PDA that runs the Linux-based Qt Extended stack. Very similar to the Sharp Zaurus, the iKit is based on a Marvell PXA270 processor, with 128MB RAM, 64MB flash, and a 2.8 inch QVGA display.

"Olympics" phone runs Linux — China Unicom is distributing a Samsung Electronics phone that runs a mobile Linux stack from Mizi Research, a company that will soon be acquired by Wind River. Samsung's "Olympics" phone, also called the SCH-i859, is equipped with a Marvell PXA300 processor and a 2.8-inch touchscreen.

SoHo NAS devices run EMC Linux — Iomega is shipping a new home-oriented "StorCenter" network-attached storage (NAS) system. The Iomega StorCenter ix2 comes in 1TB ($300) and 2TB ($480) versions, with gigabit Ethernet, dual USB ports, optional Bluetooth, and a new homegrown Linux implementation that incorporates RSA security and file-sharing software.

Earlier this year, however, Marvell included the StorCenter 1TB on a long list of NAS devices the company released that run on its "Orion" system-on-chips (SoCs), which use Marvell's ARM9-based Feroceon micro-architecture. That explains the switch from Windows Server, which currently only supports x86 architectures.

Embedian spins MXM-based SBCs — Embedian announced two 3.5-inch single-board computers (SBCs) built around its Marvell PXA320-based MXM-8310 and MXM-8110 computer-on-modules (COMs). The XPC-8112 and XPC-8312 SBCs offer a variety of I/O, including Ethernet, USB, and serial ports, and ship with Debian Linux or Windows CE 5.0, says the company.
