Man Finds Missing Money in Store Twice in a Week
Last Tuesday, Gil Steward stopped in at his local Home Depot in Auburn, Maine to pick up a trailer part—and ended up with a lot more than he'd bargained for. While in the store, he spotted a wallet lying on the floor. It contained nearly $1,000.
Steward could have kept the cash, and no one would have been the wiser. But instead, "I took it up to the service counter and went about my business. I heard them page the guy," he told the Lewiston Sun-Journal.
The wallet's rightful owner came to claim his posession, and was overwhelmingly relieved to have his money back. "He said his home payment was in there and money for Christmas," said Steward.
That single case of Good Samaritanism is enough to show Steward's generosity, but amazingly, later that very week, Steward discovered more money in the very same store. He discovered a money bag on the ground, which had been dropped by a vending company employee. And once again, he promptly turned the cash in.
"He thinks he's being tested," said his wife, Dee Steward. If that's the case, it seems like Steward's passed overwhelmingly.
Now, he says, "I think I'm going to play the lottery this weekend." Third time's a charm, right?
