The coon that was in the trap bared it's teeth at me when I was trying to open the door to release him. He was a big one too...from feasting on all that corn, I guess. ;)

I don't leave pet food out but I had a coon not long ago who was coming in and eating bird seed that had dropped from my feeders. We found him on the road one morning. Shortly after that we saw a very young fawn. I'm sure we'll find the Mama next.

One morning, very early... about 2 months ago, I happened to look out of my window and saw a huge buck just lying beside one of my flower beds...he seemed to be looking right at me. A short distance away was a doe...peacefully grazing. We watched them for at least 20 minutes...they were so beautiful. Then something spooked them and they ran towards the road...I held my breath listening for the screech of brakes and the inevitable thump. Sure enuff...I heard it. I ran up to the road...still in my robe...the buck was killed instantly but the doe held on for about 2 minutes. Three cars had hit them. Early morning traffic here is horrendus.

I wish there was a way to relocate the deer. I know the Lakeway area in Austin had a relocation program a couple of years ago...it was very expensive. The deer were relocated to a ranch in Mexico...supposedly they would help the people there as a meat source plus help the citizens of Lakeway.

Then someone found out that the ranch owner just wanted to stock his land with the deer to attract paying customers from the States who only wanted a trophy. Go figure!
