Savannah Business Report

Will Savannah be the home of the next General Electric? Savannah-based PureSpectrum, Inc., trading on the OTC pink sheets, symbol:PSPM.PK, has completed the final round of performance testing on the company’s proprietary line of dimmable, high-performance compact fluorescent lamps and is moving forward with product manufacturing and distribution.
For Lee Vanatta, president, it s another major step forward for his company, along with the first shipment last week of his new light bulbs to China to be manufactured,
In a series of performance tests conducted by lighting lab EnerSave, PureSpectrum’s dimmable CFLs outperformed several brand name dimmable bulbs in multiple categories and exceeded performance requirements to be certified by both Energy Star and Underwriters Laboratory (UL), according to Vanatta.
We have customers ready to buy, he says, explaining that the product will be branded by his company, but also manufactured under the brand names of other companies. He expects the first bulbs to return by mid-February.
According to head-to-head tests with brand name bulbs, PureSpectrum’s CFL demonstrates better overall dimming capability as well as superior dependability, durability and reliability, he reports. And, based on these test results, bill of materials and circuit board layouts have been delivered to three major North American lighting manufacturers and product distribution will begin in North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) nations in the first quarter of 2009.
These results are critical within the lighting industry, and anyone within the industry will immediately grasp the significance of the data generated, said David Natarelli, president of EnerSave of Rochester, N.Y. Given the data that we were able to collect, I believe the PureSpectrum CFL will last significantly longer than anything that is on the market right now. Consumers have begun to realize that CFLs don’t necessarily last as long as the manufacturers say they do. By virtue of actually living up to the longevity claims, PureSpectrum will go a long way toward establishing trust and loyalty among the people who buy light bulbs.
Natarelli spent eight years a director of research and development for Technical Consumer Products, Inc., the largest manufacturer of CFL s in the U.S. Their products are carried by stores such as Walmart and Home Depot under Great Value and N Vision brands. He is not a stockholder of PureSpectrum.
He is a current independent consultant for the company. I m an engineer. What I do is give up the data. The data suggests that it s a pretty darn good bulb, Natarelli said. PureSpectrum also has other independent test lab (ITL) reports, which confirm the test data that I have submitted as well. ITL test laboratories are government certified.
Working with EnerSave, PureSpectrum has completed designs for a full line of cost effective dimmable, high Power Factor enabled CFLs ranging from 14 watts to 23 watts and available in Edison screw-base or pin-based designs. The PureSpectrum CFL has a wider dimming range and higher energy conservation rate during dimming than any commercially available bulb.
The test data also indicates that PureSpectrum’s unique patent-pending ballast circuitry enables PureSpectrum’s dimmable CFL bulbs to be turned off and on at any dim level while other commercially available dimmable CFLs fail to reignite at low light levels. Additionally, PureSpectrum’s circuitry contains far fewer components than other brand name dimmable CFLs and is constructed without the component that has been proven to have the highest failure rate for electronic ballasts. All PureSpectrum CFL products are dimmable and have been designed to be compliant with established performance standards set forth by Energy Star, Underwriters Laboratory (UL) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
What these tests confirm is that PureSpectrum is introducing the highest quality, most reliable dimmable CFL ever put on the market, said PureSpectrum president and CEO Lee Vanatta.
The company s Web site is www.purespectrumlighting.com. The company's current market cap is $22.33M based on the number of shares sold and the current trading price as of last week.

Editors Note: The Business Report & Journal interviewed David Natarelli and confirmed his professional experience, but can not verify the reports of EnerSave or attest to the authenticity of the tests.
