The letter from Kno-Mar injection molding revealed some interesting things.First SeaView has placed a PO# 10508 for a production run of at least the housing. The lead time is for the ABS plastic, some 18,000# .The reason I know it is ABS is the specs on SeaView web site state this. The lens on the other hand has to be molded from a clear plastic such as Polycarb. This tells me we have at least two molds one for the lens and one for the housing. The reason I know this is, the two plastics cannot be ran in the same mold.I measured a floodlite so I could calculate the part weight. Estimated weight is about 3 oz. The runner can be reground and used up during the production run.My guess is, this run is for 80,000 to 100,000 Housings.
Next subject is the production run.Kno-Mar has received a PO# 10508 from SeaView. It is the responsibility of the injection molding firm to place a PO for the ABS plastic after they receive a PO from their customer. Molders order plastic to hit their dock just before planning, schedules their production run.By the the way most Molders run at least 16hrs. a day,if not 24hrs.All this tells me that this production run is well underway if not complete. Via the letter has a date of Nov. 15.
