Amazing charts....

Can anyone here explain to me exactly what was the catalyst for such a meteoric rise in the Equities (almost any stock... well noted on S&P chart) starting 1991 or so?? I was not actively involved in the market at that time and was not following it closely then (as I do now). Thanks in advance.
