Old scams never die; they just turn into myths.
El-Dorado, Yamashita's Gold, prime bank trading programs etc etc. The Palm/Dallas assets which TPK was claiming to own a chunk of are gaining the same kind of low-rent mythic lustre.
TPK still refers to them from time to time, and no doubt actually managed to convince some people they were real.
Van Brink fka Gilbert Ziegler used the Palm assets (plus a picture of a $20mn ruby he didn't own) to create the First International Bank of Grenada out of nothing & proceeded to rip off stupid, greedy & gullible people all over the world for something in excess of $100mn. The government of Grenada was on the pay-roll. Azie Taylor, appointed US Treasurer by Carter, was a director of one of FIBG's bogus affiliates.
While Brink awaits trial, his brother James Ziegler runs a phone-room in Yugoslavia, working the classic follow-on scam: the Asset Recovery. People who get scammed by things like FIBG, as we all know, are often the kind of people who can be scammed again & again by the same people & for the same play. Give just a little more & we'll make the programs work & everybody will have pie in the sky etc etc etc.
As part of the recovery scam, a true whack-job & Yugoslavian phone-room denizen called Paul Collins is posting messages on boards seeking the location of "missing" FIBG assets. An obvious ploy to make it look like something is happening in the "asset recovery", but the excellent thing is that these include & are perhaps mainly the same old Palm assets that TPK was claiming to own "a third" of more than ten years ago.
