There is an epidemic of naked short selling. What this means is that overseas scamsters are able to short and evade the rules here in the US. It's really more like a gambling operation than an investment. If the company is able to survive, it can backfire on them, but they do this on enough bad companies that they hope to make big money.

It's up to shareholders and each company to report this scam so that it is checked out.
