So you wanna fight?
Published: November 13, 2008 1:00 PM So You Wanna Fight returns to Nanaimo by popular demand on Saturday, Nov. 22.

So You Wanna Fight has gained tremendous popularity nationwide with its daily airing on The Fight Network. TFN has 10,000,000 subscribers and So You Wanna Fight is their most frequently aired event.

One of the most exciting additions to So You Wanna Fight is the Mixed Martial Arts.

The Toughman boxing portion of the event features tough guys like bouncers, bikers, brawlers, rednecks, ruff necks and no necks. The Mixed Martial Arts divisions are attracting skilled athletes highly trained in boxing, kickboxing, judo, ju-jitsu, Brazilian jujitsu or wrestling.

The rules for SYWF Mixed Martial Arts are unique and designed to give full throttle action for the entire bout, says a SYWF spokesperson.

“Unlike most MMA bouts where fighters can lay on the ground for the entire round attempting to find a vantage point on their opponent, the SYWF Mixed Martial Arts rules are one, three-minute round and the fighters have a 30-second ground rule. If after 30 seconds on the ground they have not submitted their opponent they are brought back to their feet and the action starts all over again.

“There is never any boring ground time in these fights.”

What makes this event so exciting is that the fighters do not know anything about their opponent, their style of fighting, or who it is until they face each other in the ring. Then if they win they will do that three times in one night to win their weight division.

This event takes place at the Shell Beach Recreation Centre on Shell Beach Road just south of the Nanaimo airport. Doors open at 6 p.m., fights start at 7 p.m.

Advanced tickets are available by calling (250) 751-3657.
