I agree in that the pendulum needs to swing the other way for awhile....in fact I would argue that it needs to swing more the direction of what Nader/Gonzo has been preachin.
On the welfare & natlz'd healthcare front....
welfare....there will always be folks who take advantage....that's 1 of the costs of a democracy...however, especially in these times, there are wayyyy more folks who actually need it & going to be needing it for quite sometime...thx to the continued suppression of our society by the powers that be....they are keeping us right where they want us...& even more so under the bush watch.
W/re to healthcare.....the system we have now sure aint workin (hasn't been for quite sometime) so I'm not sure what would be worse right now....the problems Germany is facing or the fact that most folks can't afford to get cancer....many forms of which can be dealt with if caught soon enuff....breast, etc. Ask yourself this question...where would you rather get a serious, life threatening disease, illness.....the UK/Canada or the US? Most folks can't afford ta get sick....& that's sick.
There's never an easy way but I think it's safe to say that the way we've been lead surely aint the path to remain on. Healthcare needs MAJOR reform...that much I think we all agree with & I am not so sure that anything is gonna be changing all that much under the Obama watch.....his only job...to not make it worse....which would be hard to do. & that's not a very good yardstick to have imo....we should demand & expect better....waaaayyyy better.
Dont get me wrong....I consider myself to be a capitalist at heart....just not a raging one....lol We've forgotten those who've been left behind is the problem....those who've capitalized & have done well under these conditions should be ponying up more than they do.....heck, these folks are the one's who've been given all the loopholes...which is yet another reason y they've done so well. Bottom line, the folks who can afford it are the one's who shouldn't be given all the loopholes...from corporations to the individual...that much is obvious...at least to me.
The bad thing about capitalism...too much will never be enough :(...
However as I like ta say.....captialism is the price we pay for democracy...& from that we get hypocrisy.
& damn if our "democracy" is gettin more & more expensive. I say this b/c I really dont feel as if we have true/pure democracy...at least not to the extent that Canada does. In the US...if you aren't polling at least 15% your party is not given a voice in the Natl Debates.....& we have the audacity to call ourselves a democracy....wadda joke!
Canada allows at least 4 (maybe more) parties to be included in their OPEN debate platform. We yanks aren't goin anywhere's til we at least give other parties a fighting chance. After all, how can ya build upon a grass roots platform if they aren't given = time?
Not sayin they'd win....but at least folks will be able to make more informed decisions & who knows....5% now....8% in 4 yrs, 12% in 8 yrs, etc.
To this day I've yet to hear one person tell me what they dont like about other platforms such as Nader/Gonzo....they haven't a clue b/c the media doesn't give them = time...heck , the media doesn't give'em ANY time....& sadly, folks are too busy & lazy to truly make themselves informed voters. Just listen to the soundbites & vote for whoever ya think will the do the least damage of the 2 parties...ie republocrats.
Funny thing....most folks dont even know what ticket Nader/Gonzo ran on....until they got in the booth & noticed....that is ta say if they even did pay attn while in the booth.
Bottom line, if more folks were to vote their conscience as opposed to their fear, we'd be in a far better place today no doubt.
