The author wrote the book for his six children and probably to help himself heal from his traumatic childhood experiences which if you google "The Shack" you could read. It's not really long. The thing is that the book has become a best seller basically from word of mouth since no publisher would publish it. To answer your question yes i think he bases it on Christianity
