The Senate has passed a tax bill saving more than 20 million taxpayers from the bite of the alternative minimum tax.
The vote Tuesday was 93-2.
The one-year reprieve for people exposed to the AMT was part of a giant tax package that also provides tax breaks for those investing in and using renewable energy resources.
It renews dozens of short-term tax breaks that businesses and families have come to rely on. They include the research and development tax credit and relief for those with college tuition costs.
