Unfortunately, the mess in Washington will never go away. We're as corrupt at this point as any third-world country, and the government's intervention in the markets is worthy of Peru or Argentina in the 1980s-90s (my apologies to those countries). The citizens of those countries live very difficult lives because of systemic corruption at all levels of government, and, after changes from right to left, are still facing the same corruption.

Once corruption is established, it is inerradicable. The key step is cooption of the judiciary. I find it revealing that the supreme court has taken an entirely pro-business bias (written up in the NYT magazine about 6 months ago). The recent decision favoring exxon over Alsaskan fishermen is a disgraceful case-in-point.

The policies that have been enacted are incoherent, have rewarded the worst players at the expense of all the rest of us, and like most command-economy interventions, is unlikely to work. After this, there will be no more bullets.

I don't think RD-1 matters much any more. Cor's fate is caught up in forces that will likely obliterate it along with many other businesses, good and bad.
