I tend to agree, NYC.
Paule's description even caused me to squirm a little. Ever since I was a little bitty tyke I've killed & butchered my own food. I bred, raised and dearly loved my chickens... and I twisted their little heads off when I needed to. I hunted rabbit and squirrel from when I could lift a shotgun to my shoulder. I bottle fed calves and tended to their every need before they eventually landed on the dinner table.
But I've never enjoyed killing anything. I've always felt uneasy about it. I do understand intimately that for me to live, somethin's gonna die. I believe it DOES come down to them or me. I try my dangedest to make it quick, humane and painless. I think I owe them that.
That said, Paule wasn't that out of line. The kill was quick and humane. It was only his description that caused us to be uneasy.
