I don't know what his previous positions have been but his current platform always included domestic oil exploration. It is obvious that we should be encouraging the development of a variety of proven and "new" methods of producing electricity and energy sources for transportation, but it's economic insanity to not simultaneously protect our current fragile position with our own oil reserves.

I certainly hope in 30 years we can look back on the recent increase in oil prices as the tipping point in the debate over a coherent energy policy.
