Performance of non-SCSI, non-FireWire hard drives seems peachy, no?
Actually, no. USB2 HDs get nowhere near the advertised spec for USB2. Firewire drives don't reach full FW spec either, but generally it seems FW 400 drives outperform USB2 drives by about 2 to 1, don't know how FW800 drives perform.
I know audio guys use external FW drives - they generally won't touch USB2 drives with a bargepole.
