i wish public schools taught civics, history and geography still.. i hear they dont.. in fact i hear that getting kids to be able to read at grade level is quite a chore... i dont understand that.. the school system worked when i was in public schools in the 60s and 70s... what happened? even the school lunches were tastey and wholesome...

Public schools work everywhere that our communities are healthy and decent places to raise children. There are however many parts of our larger cities and even some suburban areas that have been severely neglected and simply don't have the resources to maintain minimal standards. You wouldn't live there. Many would fear simply driving through such neighborhoods. I'm talking about parts of our country where NOTHING works and they're not all that hard to find.
