Is McCain's "disability pension" the same as "VA Disability Compensation Rates?"

If so, how in the hell is he getting over 50k in benefits when the max is $3,000 per month?

I know arizona brought this up several times and today I decided to investigate. I thought it'd be a pretty simple explaination. It's not. Here is what a Disability Pension is:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disability_pension

A disability pension is a form of pension given to those people who are permanently or temporarily unable to work due to a disability.

In either form, it is dispicable that John McCain is A) taking the benefit and B) it is as much as it is.

A) He shouldn't be taking the benefit because he IS working.
B) It is suplemental income. If you earn more than X, you are not elgible.

Note - This will not make a hill of beans difference in the election though. It would be interesting if Obama directly attacked the issue though.

How much do senior citizens with Alzheimers get per year? What about a 70 year old with cancer being taken care of by their adult children? Do THEY get 58k per year to help with the bills?
