Scottrade rule is 3 full trades (based on the buy) w/in 5 days.

Here are some scenarios to help you understand:

1. I buy 50k shares of UVSE today. I sell 20k today. That's one day trade.

2. I buy 50k shares of UVSE today. I sell 20k today. Sell 20k again today. Sell 10k today. That's ONE day trade

3. I buy 20k shares of UVSE today. I buy another 20k today. I buy another 10k today. I sell all 50k shares during a HoD EoD run. That's THREE day trades, but I'm not marked a day trader.

4. I buy 20k shares of UVSE today. I sell 20k shares of UVSE the NEXT day. That's 0 day trades.

5. I buy 20k shares of UVSE today. I sell 20k shares of UVSE the next day. Then I BUY 20k shares of UVSE (after I sold them). That's 0 day trades.

Finally, what marks you as a day trader:
1. I do a day trade monday, a day trade wednesday, and a day trade friday. I'm not marked as a day trader.
2. I do a day trade monday and tuesday, then I get in twice on friday, but it tanks so I get out of all of it (so it counts as two day trades). Because I've done 4 day trades w/in 5 days, I'm official marked as a day trader.

Since my account is under $25,000 in equity, I will face consequences and may have my account closed.
