Exactly, the market makers really don't care which direction a stock price is heading. They make money on each trade regardless. But they make nothing if there are no trades. So it's in their best interest to create a buying or selling environment thus they manipulate the prices accordingly to induce either fear or greed. The more fear or greed, the more trades, the more money in their pocket. That's it in a nutshell. Right now they're lining their pockets with investor's fear, next they’ll be doing it on investor's greed. Learn to play the game with them. That's why I sell into strength and buy into weakness. Many disagree with this style and say "Don't fight the tape, go with the flow or momentum" ... I disagree, but to each their own.
