I don't think it's a good idea:

Why do you think it is a great idea to confront a nuclear power like Russia in it's own sphere of influence? This is what Kruschev tried to do with Kennedy in the 60s and it almost caused a nuclear war.

But I believe by supporting Poland on the system (whether it works or not), makes the statement that countries have the right to defend themselves. I know what you're saying. But I don't believe we need to react the way Russia wants us to at every one of their threats. For example, the missle system in Poland is to help defend against "Iran". Riiiight. I don't buy it either but politically speaking, that's a good move. Why would Russia want to stop a country from installing a "defense" system? Also, you're referring to a direct threat towards the U.S. by Russia. We aren't directly threatening Russia. Just supporting an ally by selling them a defense system.

You have to wonder now how much Russia or China give a rat's ass about being UN members. I don't think they care at all.
