Are you thinking of polar bears? They actively seek/hunt people for food.

Black bears are attracted to areas inhabited by people because of trash (garbage). Most black bears (excluding moma bears) avoid human contact. Leaving food or garbage out is usually when bears attack. Bears will even tear into cars if food (they can smell) is left in a car.

In bear country you always have to be careful with your food and garbage.

Full disclosure: I have never encountered a bear in the wild. My knowledge comes from the Discovery Channel and other nature programs.
