Ha! XOM is throwing off such profits that any nattering off to the side just drowns in their wake.

The saving grace of your catch 22 is that we are locked in, and the big boys can't drill without us.

Sometimes it seems we are approaching a mathematical limit where we keep halving the distance to drilling but never actually get there. Schedules, real and assumed, set expectations that lead to disappointment as the schedules get stretched. However, we are inevitably closer, and I too think the guys that hang in will look like geniuses.
