I think it's possible. There should be incentives to auto companies to find an alternative source of energy.

I've thought this from day 1. Ford or GM, they NEED that, that would get them out of the ground.

Something this article doesn't mention is remember when Exxon said they were selling their stations? Why would they do that, they claimed tight profit margins, well what if gas stations were on the way out? Now they aren't taking the hit, come say 10 years when gas is no longer popular, they can buy these stations back on the cheap, and convert them (probably expensive construction) to the new fuel type.
