Don't tell anyone but, the company I work for has rented a brand new Ford Focus. We took the front seat out of it and I'm reverse scanning it.
Reverse scanning it?
Yep! I set the seat up just like it would be in the car and then picked up certain Datum points of the seat so I could align it to a controlled coordinate axis position. Scanned the entire seat leather, removed the cover to reveal the foam and scanned that. Then I removed the foam and scanned the entire retainning frame of the seat and wa laa! Their you go I just copied the entire construction of the front seat. Put the seat back together and of course re turn the vehicle!
Took the scan data into a 3d cad system called Geo Magic made a STL file and now we can load it into Catia V5.
Why did we do this?
They make a better seat then us, but not for long!
Tommorrow I'm doing o Ford Flex never even heard of it before! As a long as they keep paying me of course I will keep doing it. I'm a greedy basterd and what alot more shares of LNGT!
