I am not a lawyer or an expert on SEC regulations, but I don't think personally knowing one or more of the principals in a public corporation would make you an insider or prohibit you from discussing the company on this board. However, if you have material non public information about a public corporation, obtained from an insider, that information might prohibit you from trading in the stock until that information is released to the public. In addition, the corporation might try to hold you accountable for releasing confidential material information obtained through your personal relationship. I suppose it really boils down to your intent when it comes to any legalities. Of course, you should consult a competent lawyer if there is any doubt in your mind, but I hope you continue to post here if at all possible.

I am only expressing my personal opinions or repeating public information from SEC filings or media outlets-which may or may not be correct. Do your own investigating before investing!
